IS THE GCC RETAIL RUSH OVER?
Not long ago, soaring tourist numbers and surging population growth were forecast to sustain long-term retail growth in the GCC, with retail space in the region estimated to exceed 160 million sq ft by 2016. The retail floor space is currently estimated at around 67 million sq ft and the sector is believed to be worth $100 billion annually. However, the ripple effects of the US credit crunch have threatened to slow down the trend elsewhere in the world.More

SHOPPING CENTRE NEWS: The Annual Report for the Gulf & North Africa out now!: Retail International has just released details of the Annual Report 2009, its survey of the retail market in the Middle East & North Africa. Under the heading of 'Recession or Realism?' it looks at the current and forecast performance of organised retail in the six countries of the GCC with a separate section on Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Morocco and, for the first time, Iran.
SHOPPING CENTRE NEWS: Al Futtaim Group Strengthens its Presence in Kuwait Through 360 MALL: Tamdeen Shopping Centers announced that one of the largest retail groups in the Middle East region, Al Futtaim Group, will be further strengthening its commercial activities in Kuwait with a number of unique brands at the 360 MALL. Al Futtaim Group will be launching branches of its renowned Marks & Spencer, Intersport and Toys ‘R’ US shops at 360 MALL in June 1st, 2009.
