East Kilbride Shopping Centre comprises six linked shopping malls and is the largest covered shopping centre in Scotland. The complex was jointly owned by Land Securities /British Land, and was sold a few months ago to Propinvest for £405 million.
Initially appointed Centre Manager for part of the complex, promoted to Centre Director for entire site, 15 months after the amalgamation.
Responsible for maximising the trading performance of this very large and complex asset, with a view to reinforcing East Kilbride as a premier shopping destination. Responsible for a 5 strong Management Team delivering a staffing structure to manage in excess of 1.2 million sq ft of property and 2,100 parking spaces. In addition, he is directly accountable for managing Service Charge budgets and car park business plans to a value exceeding £3.3m and car park income exceeding £1m.
Contribute to the improved performance of The Plaza Tower office block.
Key Achievements
(Shopping Centres)
Launched the opening of Centre West in March 2003. A £90m (286,000 sq ft) development that is part of East Kilbride Shopping Centre.
Working with the asset Management team to build and improve the tenant mix at both Centrewest and Plaza Shopping Centres. Introduced new retailers to East Kilbride such as Debenhams, Zara, FCUK, Jane Norman, Dune Footwear, Gadget Shop, KFC, Pizza Hut and Subway.
Maximise the zone A rent achieved at both shopping centres. This includes an increase in Zone A rent for Plaza Shopping Centre of 22% in two years and establishing a Zone A rent over £100 in the first year at Centre West
Introduced an effective Intranet Communications system to retailers at Centre West during the first year of trading
Managed Service Charge budgets and car park business plans to a value exceeding £3.3m and Car Park income exceeding £1million.

Key Responsibilities
Restructure staffing including the introduction of personal development plans and a yearly performance appraisal for all staff.
Set up a retail trade index performance system with 95 percent of stores being involved.
Managed a £3 million centre refurbishment. Including the creation of a new Cafι at mall level.
Re-structured a £800k service charge giving priority to delivering value for money to the tenants.

In 2001 achieved a year on year increase of 5.9 percent in dwell time at the centre and increased the average spend by 4.1 percent
Howgate Car Park
Managed £300k refurbishment programme that included the introduction of a new pay on foot system.
Planned and delivered a new signage package that assists customers to and from the shopping centre.
Achieved the AA Secured Car Park award in March 2001. The first multi-storey car park in the Central Scotland police area to do so.
In 2000 car park income increased by £17k on that achieved in 1999.
Income per car park space was £280 in 1999. In 2000 I managed an increase of 10 percent to £308 in 2000. This despite 900 free car park spaces being introduced in the town centre in the year 2000.
Reduced staffing costs by 60 percent over a two-year period.
